Hoping to Survive

Mr. Ananda Dinda’s success in goat farming showcases resilience and entrepreneurial spirit.

Ananda Dinda, a marginally poor resident of Gobindapur village in the Patharpratima block, along with his wife and son, encountered significant losses due to COVID-19, followed by lockdowns, Cyclone Amphan, and Cyclone Yaas, which caused damage to his home and small tea stall. In mid-2022, he became involved in this project and, motivated by the field worker Ms. Sumitra Perera, transitioned from operating a tea shop to goat farming, starting with 17 goats and later acquiring an additional 10.

He participated in livestock training camps organized by PUS, where he learned scientific practices for goat rearing, including timely vaccinations, maintaining cleanliness, and providing nutritious feed. This education resulted in an increase in goat production through effective breeding techniques and attained notable success in goat farming, serving as an inspiration for other villagers to pursue this enterprise.

Previously, he earned around INR 40,000 annually, but now he generates at least ₹1 lakh each year from goat sales, allowing him to grow his business and support his family’s financial needs.
Ananda Dinda and his family express deep gratitude to PUS, including the donor agency, for the timely assistance that has enabled them to improve their socio-economic well-being.
