The aim of the project is to Reducing Poverty and Food Security, Promoting Social Inclusion of Marginalized Groups and Increasing Resilience to  in High-Risk   Disasters  area of  12 Gram Panchayats in 6 blocks of Sundarbans.

The people of this areas facing frequent floods and cyclones, causing significant damage to livelihoods, especially in agriculture. The floods bring saline water from the Bay of Bengal, making the soil less fertile and reducing crop yields. Cyclones and floods also lead to soil erosion, loss of mangroves and saltwater intrusion. People depend on the ecosystem for their livelihoods, but this exploitation is unsustainable.

Objectives:

Accelerated progress on SDG 2, 10 and 13 leads to enhanced quality of life of excluded and marginalized communities in Sundarban, South 24 Parganas West Bengal. NGO coordination at block and district level in the Sunderbans region Focused group discussion with various stakeholders at community and block level
Education and strengthening of a civil society network at district level on Sundarbans Coordination meeting of civil society in the district – participation of the district’s IAG

Major Achievements

  • The community people submitted the plan for concrete road, Culvert and High Raised Water Tank in local Gram Panchayet with the facilitation of project personnel.
  • 1600 farmers register into ‘Krishak Bondhu’ for Crop Insurance with the facilitation of project personnel.
  • 298 farmers practicing  saline tolerant verities of paddy  as part of climate change adoptive agriculture.
  • 20 fishermen accessed Fisherman Identity Card in Basanti Block and access  the benefits under “Banga Matsya Yojona”, Government of West Bengal.
