Background
Akash Das is a 4 years and 10 months old physically challenged boy lives at maternal house in Daspara village under Langalbaria Gram Panchayet. His father Jhoro Das committed suicide while he was 10 months old. His father was a wage labor. He use to borrowed money for cultivation which was washed away by recurring flood. He was pressure by the money lenders and finally he committed suicide as because unable to repay loan.

Economic condition:
After the death of his father, Akash’s mother came back to her father’s house and started to stay permanently. At present, his mother Jhunu Das is a works in paddy field as a wage labour. Somehow, they manage their survivals very hardly with an average monthly income of Rs. 3000.

Problem and odd situation:
Akash is a physically challenge boy. His body is cripple and right hand is short with four fingers which are also crippled. Nobody is to look after the boy while his mother goes for wage labor. His maternal grandfather also is become old and unable to go for wage labor regularly. His grandmother becomes blind and deaf.

PUS intervention:
The coordinator and community teachers identified that Akash is not linked for schooling during the survey for new enrollment in the month of February 2017. The situation of poverty and physically challenged make the boy to remains at home and de-touch from schooling.

Service provided by the Project:
With the proper consultation of project personnel Akash is enrolled in Daspara ICDS School and also regularly comes to Langalbaria Evening tuition center.

Results:
He did not know anything about read and write. Now he improved little within this short period. He use left hand for writing. He learned and takes part in action song, rhymes, drawings etc. He can write alphabets and numbers. Akash is very regular to his school and evening tuition as well, all the community teachers love him.

Family reaction:
Akash’s family is very happy for his educational improvement all kinds of support. His family is very much grateful to FADV Italy and Palli Unnayan Samiti Baruipur. His family is very much hopeful for the support of his physical fitness in future. Hope Akash will progress in education and grow up with dignity in the society.
