Emergency Relief for cyclone bulbul affected people
On 9th November 2019, the cyclonic storm “Bulbul” accompanied with rain hits in Sundarban Islands, the coastal part of Bay of Bengal caused big disaster. The cyclone was born in the Bay of Bengal; passed through Sagar, Namkhana, Patharprotima, and other coastal part of the Sundarban Islands and die in Bangladesh causes destruction on the way. The people of Sagar and Namkhana Blocks were most affected by the cyclone Bulbul and destroyed most of the mud houses, uprooted trees, paddy fields, Betel vineyards, livestock, fishes and the livelihood.
1st phase: Emergency Humanitarian Response Operation starts immediately in the month of November 2019. PUS Distributed Tarpaulin, Blanket, Mosquito Net, Rope, Bleaching Powder, Rice and Pulses (Dal) to cater the emergency needs to 3200 most “Bulbul” affected Family in Sagar, Namkhana and Patharprotima Blocks with love and Solidarity.
II phase post Bulbul Recovery and Rehabilitation work starts in the month of January 2020 for 3000 most affected families in Mousuni Island of Namhkana Block and Muriganga I GP in Sagar Island with special support by Caritas India. Blankets and Mosquito Net distributed to 1000 most vulnerable family in Mousuni Island of Namhkana Block as Non Food Item. The following activities are going on in Muriganga GP of Sagar Block as Post Bulbul Recovery and Rehabilitation for 2000 most vulnerable families.
- Decontamination of 200 ponds by chlorination so that pond water can be utilize for both domestic use and also for fish.
- Distribute Paddy seeds to 750 households as rice is main crops.
- Support for repair of Betel Vineyards to 60 families as cash crops.
- Training on scientific fish rearing and support of fingerlings to 200 families.
- Promote nutrition garden through seed support to 800 families.
Implementation strategies: Linkage and networking is important strategies adopted for Early Recovery as rehabilitation through linkage with the local PRI functionaries, Health, Agriculture and Fisheries department as key steps to identify and reach to the most Bulbul affected families for this rehabilitation operation. The following local committees have been formed for the smooth and successful implementation of the project activities in each village. Each committee consists of 7 to 9 members.
