The project is aimed Poverty Reduction and Food Security, Promoting Social Inclusion of Marginalized Groups and Increasing Resilience to Disasters in High-Risk Areas of 12 Gram Panchayats in 6 blocks of Sundarbans.
These areas face frequent floods and cyclones, causing significant damage to livelihoods, especially in agriculture. The floods bring saline water from the Bay of Bengal, making the soil less fertile and reducing crop yields. Cyclones and floods also lead to soil erosion, loss of mangroves and saltwater intrusion. People depend on the ecosystem for their livelihoods, but this exploitation is unsustainable. Now early warning system is very prompt and community awareness exacerbates the vulnerability of the population, making disaster preparedness less effective.
