Major Activities for the Month of June 2024
World Environment Day Observation: On 5th June 2024, Palli Unnayan Samiti Baruipur organized the World Environment Day observation at 8 different projects operational area. Altogether 297 Children, Youth adult participated in this World Environment Day Observation. “Our Land is Our Future” was the campaign slogan in 2024. Rallies conducted on Environmental pollution as mass awareness against environmental Pollution. Around 27 saplings planted as an example of plantation to reduce the impact of Global Worming.
Emergency Humanitarian Response to 380 Cyclone Remal affected families at Gosaba, Basanti Blocks: On 10th & 11th June, 2024, PUS Baruipur distributed Shelter Kits to 380 “Cyclone Remal” affected families at Gosaba and Basanti as Emergency Humanitarian Response to meet the immediate needs for their survival supported by Caritas India. Each of the beneficiary families received Shelter Kit consist of Tarpaulin 1, Ground sheet 1, Mat 2 and Rope as Cyclone Remal Relief Materials..
We Ring the Bell Campaign – 2024: Palli Unnayan Samiti Baruipur conducted we Ring the Bell campaign from 15th to 25th June 2024 at 6 schools and 6 ICDS in Baruipur Block in the District of South 24 Parganas. The aim of “WE RING THE BELL’ campaign is to aware the school officials, community and the school children; specially the children with disabilities access Disable Friendly infrastructure in the school. Altogether 993 Children, Teachers, Guardians and PRI members and village leaders participated in “We Ring the Bell” campaign and aware the rights to education acts for the children with Disabilities. School children encircle on their schoolyard and played the drums, blowing the whistles and raised huge voice together by ringing the bells, upholding posters and banners to get the attention of the school authority to have the enrolment of children with disability towards accessible infrastructures like Ramp and child friendly Toilets facilities and atmosphere in School for the Children with Disability.
Workshop on Climate Change Adoptive Agriculture: On 21st June 2024, a one Day Workshops on Climate change Adoptive agriculture conducted at PUS for the Field Staff of Palli Unnayan Samiti Baruipur. Altogether 65 staff participated in this workshop. Mr. Sanatan Bagh, the coordinator of Alternative Livelihood Project shared a brief introduction about the Workshop. Mr. Ashim Barman, Mr. Sukdev Samanta, Mr. Alok Purkait and Mr. Sultan Shekh facilitated the Programme as resource Person. They shared the Bad impact of using chemical fertilizer and pesticide, benefits of Climate Change Adoptive Agriculture, Organic Farming, Integrated Farming and Linkage with Government agricultural Schemes.
Capacity Building Training on Children Parliament: On 24th to 27th June 2024, the Capacity Building Training on Children Parliament conducted at PUS under the project WCP and DRR III project. Fr. Saumen Malik, the Director of PUS shared the Object of the Program and its potential impact in the community. Altogether 85 selected adolescent boys and girls from the project area participated in this Program. Mr. Pralay Bayen and Mr. Rajesh Shaw, the expertise personality on children parliament and youth Leadership facilitated the training as Resource Person. Each Child Parliaments have Prime Ministers and cabinet ministers responsible for areas like health, education, sports, climate change, and environment. The youth leadership has been enhanced in rural communities through capacity building training. Children Parliament members meet regularly to discuss social issues, child rights violations, and other problems they face.
Distribution of Saline Tolerant Paddy: On 25th and 26th the Saline Tolerant Paddy (Santoshi) seed distributed to 134 marginal farmers in Gosaba, Basanti and Mathurapur II Blocks as to demonstrate saline tolerant verities of croups towards sustainability of their agriculture based livelihood. The selected farmers received 5 kg paddy seed for the monsoon period. The main occupation of Sundarbans area is Agriculture and allied activities. The area is prone to disaster like Floods and Cyclones almost in every year and result a manifold destruction of resources for the agriculture-based livelihoods.
Major Activities for the Month of May 2024
DESTRUCTION OF CYCLONE REMAL:
On 26th May 2024, Severe Cyclonic Storm ‘REMAL’ has been landfall in between Sagar Island (West Bengal) and Khapupara in Bangladesh with heavy rain with maximum sustained wind speed of 120 to135 kmph. It has brought major destruction in operational areas of Palli Unnayan Samity Baruipur. The cyclone destroyed most of the mud houses, uprooted eclectic post, trees, loss of crops, vegetables, livestock, fishes, and other means of livelihood.
It has brought major destruction in PUS operational areas in Gosaba, Basanti, Sagar, Patharpratima, Namkhana, Mathurapur II, Kultali Blocks in the District of South 24 Parganas and Sandeshkhali Block in North 24 Parganas, where PUS has been engaging herself for the development of the people.
Inauguration of Beautician Course:
On 5th & 12th April 2024, Palli Unnayan Samiti Baruipur inaugurated Beautician Course at Belegachhi and Khakurdaha villages under Baruipur & Joynagar Block I in the District of South 24 Parganas. Sr. Helen Senapati, the Asst. Director of Palli Unnayan Samiti Baruipur shared the objective of the conducting beautician-training course. PUS Baruipur provides an opportunity for girls and young women to develop skills as makeup artists towards income generation for self-sufficiency. The duration of the training course is 4 months. Altogether, 73 candidates enrolled in these beautician course. Local dignitaries like PRI members, Village Elders were present and shares the important of vocational training towards self-sufficiency. At the end of the training, the participants who successfully complete the training course will be awarded with certificates and practice kits as to promote professionals as make-up artist.
Inauguration of Computer Training with Spoken English Course
On 12th & 22nd April 2024, Palli Unnayan Samiti Baruipur inaugurated two Computer Training Centre with Spoken English course at St. Patrick’s Boy’s Primary School, Morapai and PUS Baruipur Human Recourse Development Centre. The programs supported by Belgium Sponsored Committee and Diocese of Rottenburg Stuttgart, Germany respectively. The duration of the training course is 6 months. The objective is to develop vocational Skill and link them in the job market or Self-employment. Altogether 25 computer desktops instilled with well-furnished classrooms and 60 poor and marginalized students enrolled in these two Centers and motivated to take up this course to shape their better future.
Inauguration of Tailoring Unit
On 15th May 2024, Palli Unnayan Samiti Baruipur Inaugurated the Tailoring Training Unit at its office premises under the project Day Care Centre – Support for the Disable and Cerebral Palsy Children and their Families.
Fr. Saumen Malik, the Director of Palli Unnayan Samiti Baruipur shared the objective of the Tailoring Training Course as to provide Vocational Skill Training to the poor rural women belongs to most backward community and also parents of differently Abled Children as creating better earning opportunity to add some income to their families towards better livelihood. Mr. Sanjib Mandal, Project Coordinator also discussed the purpose of Vocational Skill Training as economic empower of Youth, Women.
Altogether 30 poor rural women are enrolled in this Tailoring Training Course. The duration of the Tailoring Training is for 6 Months. All the participants who successfully complete the course will be awarded with certificate.
